What is it used for?
The naturally occurring Fragum Erugatum cockle shells are harvested and packaged for various applications.
Poultry Feed Supplement
The shells we sell are most commonly used in the poultry industry as a food supplement.
Shell grit (soluble grit) is digested by the hen and contains calcium, most of which is used to form strong eggshells, as used by Kalbarri Free Range Eggs in Western Australia, and many other customers in the egg industry.
The majority of an eggshell is made up of calcium carbonate by providing shell grit as a supplement it ensures the birds have sufficient calcium in their bodies to improve the production of eggs from the birds and aids in their digestion.
Bird Feed Supplement
The natural shells we sell are most commonly used as a bird feed supplement.
It is used as a food supplement as the shells are relatively high in calcium creating a healthy diet for birds.
Landscaping
The nursery industry find our products benefit the soil with the addition of calcium in the soil.
Whilst the landscape industry uses the highly decorative natural shell products giving a white light reflection and shell formative structure in landscape and modern architectural designs
Aquaculture
Our product is also used in the aquaculture industry as a tank cleaning medium in the farming of lobsters/crayfish, oysters and abalone (Paua).
The whole shell makes a beautiful base setting for aquariums and salt water fish tanks.
